Full-stack engineer shipping an AI-native platform with integrations and agentic workflows from foundational architecture through pilot production.
What you would do
- Ship production features across backend and frontend without handoffs
- Design integrations to third-party tools with proper OAuth2, webhooks, and sync patterns
- Build real-time dashboards with metric drill-downs and export capabilities
- Architect a tool-use layer compatible with MCP-style agentic patterns
- Establish testing, monitoring, and on-call procedures for the pilot phase
Who they want
- 3+ years shipping SaaS products with APIs and data models
- Deep familiarity with integrations: OAuth2, webhooks, pagination, rate limiting, sync semantics
- Experience building with AI coding tools (ChatGPT, Copilot) for velocity without sacrificing code taste
- Understanding of MCP-style tool interfaces or tool server implementations
- Strong communicator who can articulate tradeoffs and keep teams aligned remotely
Main skills
What the interview asks about
1.Sync semantics and reliability
Integrations must handle edge cases like retries, duplicate events, and schema drift without corrupting user data, so interviewers test whether you've debugged real sync issues.
For example: “You're ingesting webhooks from a CRM. Some customers retry failed events; others send duplicates on network stalls. How do you prevent duplicates and scale if one customer sends 10x more events?”
2.Backend and frontend unification
End-to-end ownership requires fluency on both sides; interviewers need to confirm you can unblock yourself and avoid slow handoff cycles in a fast-moving pilot.
For example: “You ship a dashboard widget, but stakeholders complain slow refreshes. Backend pulls every 30s, frontend polls every 10s, causing jank. Diagnose and fix the issue.”
3.AI tool effectiveness and discipline
Vibe coding means leveraging generative AI to move fast, but without proper testing and interface discipline, you ship bugs that destroy user trust during a critical pilot.
For example: “You use ChatGPT to generate a webhook event parser for a new integration. The code looks plausible but you spot no unit tests. How do you validate the generated code before shipping it to production, and what gaps would trigger you to rewrite it manually?”
4.Agentic tool architecture
MCP-compatible systems require clear tool registries, permission boundaries, and runtime isolation so agents can safely call external services without credential leaks or unintended side effects.
For example: “You're designing a tool registry where an agent syncs to Salesforce but must never export email lists. How do you enforce permission boundaries and audit tool calls?”
5.Pilot launch readiness
Shipping to real users exposes race conditions, monitoring gaps, and undocumented failure modes; interviewers test whether you've owned the full observability and on-call lifecycle.
For example: “On pilot day two, a customer's sync stopped but no alert fired. Logs show 50 retries then gave up. What observability would you add to catch this sooner?”
A task you may get
Design a webhook pipeline handling 1,000 events/sec with deduplication and at-least-once delivery. Sketch data flow, failure modes, and testing strategy before pilot launch.
How to prepare
- Study OAuth2 and webhook design patterns by reviewing real API documentation from Stripe, GitHub, and Slack.
- Build a small integration prototype (e.g., sync contacts from Airtable into a local database) to practice handling retries and edge cases.
- Review one open-source tool server or MCP implementation to understand tool registries and permission models.
- Prepare a brief case study of a past integration you shipped: what was hard, what failed in production, and how you fixed it.
