Who they want

  • 1-3 years of customer success, operations, or product support experience in SaaS or marketplace
  • Strong communication skills and comfort de-escalating frustrated users

What the interview asks about

  1. 1.Technical issue investigation and triage

Most support issues have different root causes - browser problems, network issues, user confusion, or actual product bugs. Effective triage saves engineering time and ensures users get the right solution quickly.

For example: “A user reports video crashes during interviews. You receive 5 similar reports within the hour from different users. How would you investigate browser, network, or product bug?”

  2. 2.Documentation and self-serve enablement

Every support ticket you prevent through good documentation scales the team's capacity. Recognizing what information users actually need requires observing patterns across many interactions.

For example: “You notice 20% of requests ask about offer acceptance timing and next steps. How would you decide what documentation to build and measure impact?”

  3. 3.User de-escalation and support quality

Users who are angry or confused often represent larger problems. Keeping them satisfied while gathering information for product teams requires emotional intelligence and clear communication.

For example: “A user's offer payment delayed 2 days by system sync. They're upset about staying. How would you keep them satisfied while documenting?”

  4. 4.Pattern recognition and insight generation

Spotting that a problem is regional, affects certain user types, or follows a time pattern helps product teams prioritize fixes and understand scale. Most individual bug reports hide patterns.

For example: “Your Zendesk queue shows 15 tickets over 2 weeks where users in India report slow platform loading between 6 PM and 8 PM IST. How would you investigate and present this to the engineering team to determine if it's a real performance issue or environmental?”

  5. 5.Product feedback and advocacy

You are closest to user friction. Translating what you observe into specific, actionable feedback helps product teams understand what actually matters and why.

For example: “A user asks how to edit their profile after application submission. The option exists but isn't visible. How would you present this to product?”

A task you may get

You receive three support requests from users on the platform. For each, write a response that addresses their issue while identifying whether you need to escalate to engineering or triage to documentation. Explain your reasoning for each.

How to prepare

  • Practice troubleshooting common SaaS issues - video calls, payment integrations, authentication, browser compatibility
  • Write 2-3 sample support responses that balance helpfulness with professionalism and a friendly tone
  • Review a few support platforms like Zendesk or Intercom and understand how to categorize and track issues
  • Gather examples from your own experience of patterns you've noticed in user behavior or feedback
