Skills this role asks for
What the interview is likely to probe
1.Financial presentation and visualization quality
Finance communication requires data to support clear conclusions; interviewers verify you understand how presentation choices affect how financial stories are perceived.
Expect something like: “An AI slide correctly shows quarterly revenue grew from 50M to 62M but presents the data as a pie chart with no trend line and buries the year-over-year growth percentage in footnote text. What issues would you identify, and how would you rate this?”
2.Excel model structure and formula design
Financial models must be auditable and maintainable by others; interviewers check whether you recognize poor design even when calculations are correct.
Expect something like: “An expense categorization spreadsheet uses deeply nested IF formulas to assign costs correctly when a simple VLOOKUP with a category table would be clearer. How would you grade this model, and what issues could it create?”
3.Methodology and industry standard alignment
Finance has conventions for valuation and accounting; interviewers assess whether you spot when AI uses technically sound but non-standard approaches.
Expect something like: “An AI proposes LIFO inventory valuation for a company that standardly uses FIFO. The calculation is mathematically accurate. Would you flag this as an error, and what would you communicate to management?”
4.Model assumptions and sensitivity testing
Financial models' usefulness depends on defensible assumptions; interviewers verify you can evaluate whether key inputs are reasonable and properly tested.
Expect something like: “An AI-generated DCF valuation assumes 10% perpetual growth for a mature industry company but provides no sensitivity analysis. What assumptions would concern you, and what analysis is missing?”
5.Distinguishing technical correctness from analytical appropriateness
Factually accurate numbers presented misleadingly can obscure truth; interviewers check whether you separate calculation correctness from whether the overall analysis serves its purpose.
Expect something like: “An investment summary correctly reports a 5-year 8% loss but emphasizes strong recent 3-month gains without context. Is this factually correct, appropriately analyzed, and suitable for a client presentation?”
Exercise you may get
Review an AI-generated financial work product (a slide, spreadsheet, or short document), identify three specific quality issues including at least one calculation or methodology concern, and explain how you would communicate these findings to a finance leader.

- Review current standards for financial analysis, valuation methodology, and accounting practices in your specialty
