A CAD and manufacturing expert who evaluates AI-generated design recommendations and develops assessment rubrics.

What you would do

  • Review AI-generated manufacturing recommendations and evaluate them against real-world constraints and best practices
  • Assess process efficiency and technical feasibility of CAD designs produced or refined by AI systems
  • Develop and refine evaluation rubrics to consistently measure manufacturing accuracy and operational efficiency
  • Write Python code and scripts to automate assessment of AI outputs across large batches of designs
  • Document detailed technical feedback explaining why AI recommendations succeed or fail

Who they want

  • Hands-on experience with any CAD platform (Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA, Creo, Onshape)
  • Experience with CAM platforms, precision CNC operations, and manufacturing automation environments
  • Proficiency writing Python code and familiarity using AI-powered coding agents in design workflows
  • Strong written and verbal communication emphasizing clarity and technical precision
  • Experience developing or applying evaluation rubrics for technical processes

What the interview asks about

  1. 1.Manufacturing process feasibility

AI models trained on designs often ignore real-world constraints; your experience prevents propagation of infeasible suggestions.

For example: “An AI system recommends a 5-axis CNC toolpath for a part that a more senior engineer would mill using 3-axis conventional techniques with better finish and lower cost. How do you evaluate this recommendation, and what rubric category captures the trade-off?”

  2. 2.Multi-platform CAD evaluation

Different CAD systems have different constraint models; you must evaluate AI recommendations within each platform's native behavior.

For example: “The same geometry receives different manufacturability scores in Fusion 360 versus CATIA due to different simulation engines. How do you construct a rubric that accounts for these platform-specific behaviors while still maintaining consistent assessment?”

  3. 3.Rubric development and calibration

Subjective evaluation corrupts training data; objective rubrics allow models to learn from consistent feedback.

For example: “You're developing a rubric for 'manufacturability efficiency' across diverse geometries and volumes. A simple design excels for 1-off parts but fails for high-volume stamping; complex designs show the opposite. How do you structure it?”

  4. 4.Python workflow integration

Manual review doesn't scale; automation through coding enables consistent assessment of thousands of AI outputs.

For example: “You need to test whether an AI design tool consistently avoids internal sharp corners that can't be machined. Write a conceptual Python workflow describing how you'd detect this violation across a batch of 500 generated designs.”

  5. 5.AI model feedback documentation

Clear, specific feedback teaches models to correct systematic errors in future generations.

For example: “Reviewing 50 AI-generated CNC toolpaths, you notice 8 suggestions violate clearance constraints by 0.1-0.5mm in specific geometries. How do you document this feedback so the model can learn to avoid similar violations?”

A task you may get

Review 3-5 AI-generated CAD designs or manufacturing recommendations from real work samples, assess them against provided rubric criteria, and document your evaluations with technical reasoning.

How to prepare

  • Prepare 2-3 past CAD or manufacturing projects where you identified defects, efficiency gaps, or feasibility issues
  • Assemble examples of CAM or CNC workflows where AI recommendations succeeded or failed in practice
  • Document a Python script or pseudocode you've written for technical testing or evaluation purposes
  • Outline 1-2 evaluation rubrics you've developed or applied in assessing manufacturing quality or design efficiency
